Lack of access to reliable electricity to households remains a challenge in India, especially in tribal and rural areas. The focus of the project is to provide clean and reliable energy to unlit homes in Maharashtra.
The project aims to provide electricity to unelectrified homes and community spaces through decentralised solar off-grid systems. A community partnership model is adopted where the capex for the installation is funded by Tata Capital and the maintenance is paid for by the community members through a one-time joining fee and monthly electricity bills. In addition to providing electricity, the project has also enabled the community to initiate commercial activities like flour mill, keep their shops open for longer duration in the evenings, access to technology and safety.
