Shankar Venkateswaran
Chief - Tata Sustainability Group

Shankar is responsible for creating an enabling environment for all TSG team members to perform to their potential. As the Chief - Tata Sustainability Group, he drives all group level initiatives in the sustainability space, and guides Tata Sons and the group companies on sustainability and CSR initiatives. A mechanical engineer from IIT Madras and an MBA graduate from IIM Calcutta, he has over 31 years of work experience in the corporate and development sectors.
Before joining Tata Sons, Shankar was with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) India as Director, Sustainability. He started his career at AF Ferguson & Co and moved on to the corporate sustainability and CSR sector as chief executive of Partners in Change. He has also served as Executive Director, India, of the American India Foundation.
One of the leading thinkers and speakers in the areas of sustainability and corporate responsibility, Shankar has held board positions at Mobile Creche, Srijan, ActionAid India and Ghana, Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development, Tata Power Community Development Trust and Aatapi Trust. He was also a member of the guidelines drafting committee for the National Voluntary Guidelines for responsible business.
He enjoys tennis, theatre and reading in his leisure time.
Anita Rajan

Anita’s key role is to set directions and strategic goals for Tata STRIVE in its mission to build capacity, to train youth for employment, entrepreneurship, and community enterprise as well as to support sustainability efforts within Tata group through TSG.
She has over 20 years of experience in education and management sector with TCS, IL&FS and Lintas. Prior to her corporate stint, she has been an educator for 10 years. She is striding both worlds to bring learner centric measures into programmes as well as bringing private sector efficiencies into social initiatives of scale and reach. She believes 'people empowerment’ is key to sustainable development and skill development is key to ‘people empowerment.'
Anita has an MBA in Marketing from Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, and is an alumnus of St. Stephens College, Delhi University where she did her BA (Hons) in Mathematics. She also has a Bachelor in Education degree from Mumbai University.
She enjoys reading biographies, writing, playing badminton and painting glass, but gardening tops the list.
Alka Upadhyay
AVP – Environment Services

Alka heads the Environment Services Team, and is responsible for promoting environmental sustainability across the Tata group of companies by driving various initiatives such as Water Footprint Assessment, Low Carbon strategy and Energy management, Natural Capital Valuation and concept of Circularity. Her work essentially involves providing advisory to Tata companies which entails seeking out and meeting C-suite executives, identifying and developing improvement plans and securing senior-level commitment for their implementation.
She is a metallurgist by discipline, and has spent over 14 years in the steel industry. She has been responsible for conceptualisation and facilitation of technological improvements in the area of iron making in Tata Steel. She has been felicitated with the Young Metallurgist award in 2005 in ferrous category by the Ministry of Steel.
Alka also has over 7 years of experience in Climate Change and Sustainability. Before joining the Tata Sustainability Group, she was a part of the Climate Change and Sustainability cluster at Tata Quality Management Services.
She enjoys reading biographies and fiction, and running half marathons.
Sohini Roychowdhury
GM - Communications & Knowledge Management

Sohini is responsible for leading sustainability-related communications, advocacy and knowledge management among Tata group companies globally as well as for key external stakeholders. She holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from Presidency College, Calcutta and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Strategic Communications from the London School of PR, UK.
Sohini has over 15 years of experience in building and implementing large scale strategies in behaviour change communication, public affairs and evidence based advocacy across India, Bangladesh, Egypt, West Bank/Gaza, Philippines and Nepal. She has previously worked on child rights advocacy and partnerships at the UNICEF India Country Office.
Prior to that she was a communications specialist for a 10-year operations research programme in reproductive health. Her role focused on translating research evidence for policy and programme development funded by USAID, and implemented by Population Council in Asia and the Near East region.
In her spare time she enjoys pursuing Indian classical dance, reading art history and writing poetry.
Ajit Chaudhuri
GM - Community Services

Ajit is part of the community services and disaster response teams within TSG. He had earlier worked in the development sector, starting with an NGO in western Rajasthan, and then with donor agencies and consulting organisations. He had also set up a disaster response unit at the India Today group, where he worked on relief and rehabilitation in the aftermath of the Kargil War, the Gujarat and Kashmir earthquakes, the Orissa super-cyclone, the Bihar floods, inter alia. His main interests are in the delivery of basic services to communities who are most difficult to reach – the poorest, the most marginalised, the peripatetic, and those in remote locations.
He has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Shriram College of Commerce, a Master’s in Rural Management from the Institute of Rural Management (IRMA), and is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Policy, also at IRMA. He was awarded the Chevening Gurukul Scholarship by the British Government in 2001, wherein he spent a semester at the London School of Economics studying leadership and development.

Sudhakar is responsible for creating strategies to drive Group Focus Initiatives in the Tata group companies across India. Prior to the formation of the TSG, he joined Tata Council for Community Initiatives (TCCI as General Manager – Group Corporate Sustainability through an internal group transfer from Tata Teleservices Limited.
Sudhakar has 14 years of experience in the Human Resources function and has driven many people-related initiatives. He started his career in the manufacturing sector with Asian Paints and then moved on to the service sector with Bharti Airtel. Subsequently he moved to Tata Teleservices, where he worked for 9 years.
With skills in people management, and extensive experience in organisation level transformational projects in the areas of restructuring, culture building, competency development and change management, he has a passion for corporate sustainability and CSR. He is also keenly interested in the areas of leadership coaching and mentoring.
Bhaskar Natarajan
Head Programme
Execution - Tata STRIVE

Bhaskar is currently the Head of 'Programme Execution' function at Tata STRIVE, a group wide skill development initiative of Tata group. His role involves integrating coaching principles into various stages of the programme in training underprivileged youth on demand-driven vocational skills along with integrated life-skills to empower them for a brighter future. This role involves – curriculum / content development; facilitator / trainer development, and centre development for Tata STRIVE centres and implementation at partner centres spread across the country.
He has close to 16 years of cumulative experience in designing and executing Leadership Development solutions for organisations, top teams executive coaching, facilitating individual / team / organisational change using ‘Theory U’. He has also executed workplace performance improvement strategies and enhancing customer-centricity initiatives. Currently he is a research scholar at XLRI, Jamshedpur (India).

Ameya Vanjari

Ameya heads the Technology and Innovation function at Tata STRIVE - a Tata Group initiative focused on skills development towards employability of the youth. For a programme to deliver significant impact, technology plays a key role. Ameya is responsible for planning and implementing technology solutions to support the capabilities and processes at Tata STRIVE, introducing various innovations for the programme to facilitate development of youth for success in the future; enabling developments of tomorrow's skills while maintaining quality.
Ameya believes that the more he learns about business sustainability for enterprises, the more he sees a possible role technology can play in enabling the quest.
Prior to this he has led the Business & IT Architecture Consulting practice at TCS for over 8 years, establishing and scaling the unit delivering profitable growth. He was responsible for delivery excellence for consulting engagements in this space, providing sales support for opportunities across the globe, demonstrating thought leadership and creating & managing assets. As a Strategist, Head of IT and practicing Enterprise Architect, he has shaped and driven technology enabled business transformation for multiple organisations. He has mentored and led programs involving IT Strategies, Business Architectures, Enterprise IT Architecture and roadmaps to enterprises across the globe. He has also managed technology programmes and teams delivering IT Services to large global customers.
Ameya has a degree in engineering in Electronics from V.J.T.I, Mumbai and has done a General Management programme from Iacocca Institute, Lehigh University, PA, US.
Photography and sports - especially cricket, are his passions apart from food and technology.
Abhishek Goyal

Abhishek is a part of the Environment Services team at TSG. He has a Master's degree in Environment Economics and Management from University of York, UK, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Indore University.
Prior to joining TSG, Abhishek was with McKinsey & Company as an Analytics Specialist in their Sustainability and Resource Productivity practice. He has significant experience in the area of greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement cost curves for countries, cities and corporations. He has also worked with Ernst & Young's Climate Change and Sustainability Services, where he was working on developing carbon reducing projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol. Abhishek has also worked on multiple projects related to sustainability reporting advisory, assurance, training and capacity building programmes across varied industry sectors.
Shrirang Dhavale

Shrirang’s roles and responsibilities in TSG include disaster response and social development programme management - - planning, deployment and impact assessment.
Prior to joining TSG, Shrirang has worked with TATA Motors to strengthen CSR, sustainability agenda and affirmative action. He also has experience working on human rights, to bring in community perspective in corporate processes, as well as CSR strategy development.
He has held the post of Secretary for the Sumant Moolgaokar Development Foundation, TATA Motors Employees’ Education Trust and TATA Motors Kalasagar. Shrirang has also held the position of the Chair (2013 – 2015), CSR and Affirmative Action Panel, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Pune. He’s worked for over eleven years with ActionAid International – in Orissa, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh; and on disaster response - Tsunami (Andaman and Nicobar), Earthquake (Gujarat), Floods (Maharashtra) and drought (Rajasthan). He is a member of the National Committee on Affirmative Action (CII).
Shrirang holds an MA (Urban and Rural Community Development) from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
His hobbies are badminton, long distance driving and listening to music.
Manjula Sriram

Manjula is part of the community services team at TSG. One of her key responsibilities is the Tata Group volunteering program, Tata Engage. She believes that Sustainability is everybody's business.
Prior to joining TSG, she worked as a strategy consultant with Tata Strategic Management Group, addressing top-of-the-mind concerns of CXOs. She has diverse experience across strategy formulation, portfolio diversification & review, organisation redesign, strategic sourcing and supply chain optimisation. While at Tata Strategic, Manjula helped develop a collective CSR agenda for the Tata Group and helped dimension the Tata skill development initiative – Tata STRIVE.
Manjula holds a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology from SNDT University and a Master's degree in business administration from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.
She enjoys travelling and reading.
Sourav Roy
DGM – Sustainability Strategy

Sourav is responsible for working with Tata companies on developing customized sustainability strategies integrated across their operations and value chains. His previous engagement within TSG was to work on setting up disaster response frameworks for the Tata group while managing several post disaster relief and rehabilitation programmes within and outside India.
He joined the Tata group through the Tata Administrative Services in 2007. His experience with Tata companies range across operations strategy formulation and deployment, M&A / corporate restructuring transactions and project finance in diverse sectors like metals & mining, power, logistics, infrastructure and hospitality. He has also worked with the Grameen Bank (Bangladesh) and other organizations in the Indian development sector before joining the Tata group and retains a keen interest in development finance.
Sourav holds a graduate degree in economics from the Delhi University with post graduate diplomas in management and business law from the Indian Institute of Management, (Ahmedabad) and National Law School (Bangalore), respectively. He loves playing any sport, understanding the history of cinema, trekking and reading a good book in his spare time.

Venkat is responsible for a host of accounting activities. He ensures that finance systems and processes are disseminated and followed, all expenses are as per approved budgets, designs MIS, and updates budget vs. actual information.
He ensures that all the legal compliances of the Trust are complied with Indian statutory requirements, establish immaculate systems of financial accounting, auditing, and reporting in accordance with best practices and Tata services/ TCIT policies and procedures in Mumbai and all field locations.
With 20 years of experience in strategic planning auditing & control, expertise encompass preparing annual plans, monitoring and tracking budgets, suggesting corrective measures against deviations, defining internal control systems, mid-term reviews, coordinating statutory and conducting internal audits.
Venkat holds an MBA in Finance, and is an Intermediate at Institute of Cost and Works Accountants, India.
He’s an avid follower of cricket and enjoys watching movies.

Apoorvah Sankaran

Apoorvah is primarily responsible for the strategic planning and coordination of TSG’s presence in the digital space - TSG and Tata Engage Websites, and social media platforms. She also contributes to development and execution of campaign content for Tata Sustainability Month, Tata Engage and other relevant group CSR projects.
Apoorvah holds a BA in Economics from St. Xavier's College Mumbai and an MBA in Communication Management from Symbiosis School of Media and Communication (Bengaluru). She has over two years work experience in digital advertising, social media management and online reputation management, from Rediffusion Young & Rubicam. Her love for travel and adventure also led her to pursue her first management internship in Costa Rica in 2014, to help with brand promotion and communication for a women's cooperative called AMASIA.
Apart from learning Spanish, Apoorah also has a keen interest in travelling, art and crafts, and reading.

Kinjal provided consulting services to many education non-profits, particularly in forming long-term strategies and implementation plans to execute them.

He has mentored and led programs involving IT Strategies, Business Architectures, Enterprise IT Architecture and roadmaps to enterprises across the globe. He has also managed technology programmes and teams delivering IT Services to large global customers.
Ameya has a degree in engineering in Electronics from V.J.T.I, Mumbai and has done a General Management programme from Iacocca Institute, Lehigh University, PA, US.

Shrirang’s roles and responsibilities in TSG include disaster response and social development programme management - - planning, deployment and impact assessment.
Prior to joining TSG, Shrirang has worked with TATA Motors to strengthen CSR, sustainability agenda and affirmative action. He also has experience working on human rights, to bring in community perspective in corporate processes, as well as CSR strategy development.
He has held the post of Secretary for the Sumant Moolgaokar Development Foundation, TATA Motors Employees’ Education Trust and TATA Motors Kalasagar. Shrirang has also held the position of the Chair (2013 – 2015), CSR and Affirmative Action Panel, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Pune. He’s worked for over eleven years with ActionAid International – in Orissa, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh; and on disaster response - Tsunami (Andaman and Nicobar), Earthquake (Gujarat), Floods (Maharashtra) and drought (Rajasthan). He is a member of the National Committee on Affirmative Action (CII).
Shrirang holds an MA (Urban and Rural Community Development) from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

Sourav Roy

Sourav is responsible for working with Tata companies on developing customized sustainability strategies integrated across their operations and value chains. His previous engagement within TSG was to work on setting up disaster response frameworks for the Tata group while managing several post disaster relief and rehabilitation programmes within and outside India.
He joined the Tata group through the Tata Administrative Services in 2007. His experience with Tata companies range across operations strategy formulation and deployment, M&A / corporate restructuring transactions and project finance in diverse sectors like metals & mining, power, logistics, infrastructure and hospitality. He has also worked with the Grameen Bank (Bangladesh) and other organizations in the Indian development sector before joining the Tata group and retains a keen interest in development finance.
Sourav holds a graduate degree in economics from the Delhi University with post graduate diplomas in management and business law from the Indian Institute of Management, (Ahmedabad) and National Law School (Bangalore), respectively. He loves playing any sport, understanding the history of cinema, trekking and reading a good book in his spare time.

Apoorvah is primarily responsible for the strategic planning and coordination of TSG’s presence in the digital space - TSG and Tata Engage Websites, and social media platforms. She also contributes to development and execution of campaign content for Tata Sustainability Month, Tata Engage and other relevant group CSR projects.
Apoorvah holds a BA in Economics from St. Xavier's College Mumbai and an MBA in Communication Management from Symbiosis School of Media and Communication (Bengaluru). She has over two years work experience in digital advertising, social media management and online reputation management, from Rediffusion Young & Rubicam. Her love for travel and adventure also led her to pursue her first management internship in Costa Rica in 2014, to help with brand promotion and communication for a women's cooperative called AMASIA.
Apart from learning Spanish, Apoorah also has a keen interest in travelling, art and crafts, and reading.

Kinjal provided consulting services to many education non-profits, particularly in forming long-term strategies and implementation plans to execute them.

At Deloitte and while working at ICF Consulting and GHD Consulting, she worked with major retailers, consumer goods companies, federal, state, and local governments, and small start-ups to measure and manage environmental and sustainability issues and conduct carbon inventories, and life cycle assessments. She also serves on the advisory board of the Nature Generation.
Sarah holds a Master’s in Environmental Management from Yale University with a focus on Industrial Environmental Management, and a Bachelor’s of Science from James Madison University in Integrated Science and Technology.

Dr. Paul handles a combination of political & technical roles, including liaison with regional/national policymakers & regulators; maintaining & improving management systems to ensure compliance with environment & climate change related legislation; provision of technical advice and resources to improve environmental performance, including energy efficiency.
Originally from South Wales in the UK, he has a B.Eng (Hons) in Biochemical Engineering from Swansea University; a Ph.D in Energy Conservation/Heat Transfer from the University of the West of England in Bristol, and an MBA from Warwick University. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered Environmentalist and a Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers.
A member and past Chairman of the World Steel Association Environment Committee, he is also a past Chairman of the Eurofer Environment Committee. He currently is a member of the Tata Sons Sustainability Steering Committee and the Eurofer Climate Change Committee.
In addition to his role at Tata Steel, Dr.Paul was previously a Director of the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD) UK and is currently a Director of Ravenscraig Limited; a JV between Tata Steel, Scottish Enterprise & Wilson Bowden, set up in order to redevelop & regenerate the former Ravenscraig steelworks site in Scotland.
